Work in Progress Update – Pikachu

Just a quick update tonight ðŸ™‚ I just wanted to share with you my progress on the Pikachu I am crocheting from Sunshine Sugar n’ Cream Aran weight cotton yarn.
20170618_124354

To be honest, it’s looking larger that I thought it would – which isn’t a bad thing. It will make the toy more substantial (it’s a Christmas present for Lily). The Sunshine yellow shade also looks fantastic – I’m also going to have to order some more off Amazon before I can progress any further though as this used up a lot more yarn than I thought I would.
20170727_142522
The shaping of the body looks good. There is a distinctive head and body shape to it, which will hopefully become more pronounced as I add the features. Those are the next job when the yarn arrives!
That’s all from me at the minute. Trying to prep for the launch of Chapter one of my Novel tomorrow!
For participating in the 7th Annual Charleston Sports FestGiven this day 13th of June in the year 2020.
What are you all making at the moment? Would love to see your current favourite WIP – post in the comments below ðŸ™‚
Love to you all and happy knitting!

F.O – My first Crochet Project

Hello all ðŸ™‚
So this blog is pretty much Lily pictures and finished objects for a while. Now I’m back at work, my spare time is very limited. However, the spare time is being spent learning to crochet and some knitting – when I’m not cuddling Lily. I’m managing to fit in yarn related projects during my work breaks!
So in the last couple of months I’ve started to get my head around crochet – inspired mainly the Octopus for a Preemie facebook group. I have been trying to figure it out on and off for ages and it’s finally starting to click!
18076923_10158519506465247_7989500371213925737_o
It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of it. It’s not going to pass muster because there are some holes in the legs – going to use a smaller hook for them next time. But I’m hoping I can use this skill to help premature babies.
It’s my first time using cotton yarn – Patron DK – and it’s really lovely! The purple colour is solid, but the pink is variegated and really nice to use.
Essentially this skills is another excuse to buy yarn – although the hubby will be told it’s a way to use up my stash… what they don’t know?
Love to you all, I spent the day cuddling Lily and we had a lovely family picnic!

Stitch markers

Hay guys;
So I’m back to work this week, so not promising much in terms of blogging or knitting. Any knitting time I now have is during my dinner break and I’m also figuring out crochet. So not a lot of wip progress at the moment!
But I did get some time to make myself some new stitchmarkers over the weekend. They still need the jump rings soldering shut, but otherwise they’re done ðŸ™‚
Step one was amazon shopping. I brought a multipack of different sized jewellery clasps and a mixed pack of pendants.
Step two was the design. I found the tiny seed beeds in my stash if goodies at home. The marker felt likw it needed a pop of colour. I picked the largest pendants for the largest markers and so on.
Step three was join it all together and digout a storage box.
Large set
Medium set
Miny set
These were a super quick and easy make. I’ve been fonding the plastic ones seem to snap after a couple of outings. So hoping these will last a bit longer!
Thats all from me today
Love to you all and happy knitting!

Spotlight Sunday

So I read a lot of of blogs through the week. Especially now that I spend a lot of time trapped on the sofa by a sleeping Lily! A lot of these blog feature some amazing advice and inspirational ideas. In light of this I thought I would start a once a week feature to share these awesome posts with the rest of you - just in case you missed them...
What I do think would be really cool would be if this became a thing a lot of us could do. I love seeing where other people's inspiration comes from. Just a thought? #spotlightsunday
  1. Weighing out your Yarn - Dartmoor Yarns
Now this was a really good idea. Up until this point I've been going with the logic that if I have 3 times the length of yarn length left then I have enough to sneak in another yarny row. However, Dartmoor yarns have a much more accurate method to prevent games of yarny chicken - weighing out your yarn. If you know how much yarn you use per row then you can weigh the yarn after each row to see if you have enough left for another.
So I'm off to buy a set of digital kitchen scales......
With my new cabling skills this post really caught my attention. So Karen managed to cable round the wrong way and managed to mess up her pattern but didn't notice until a lot later on. Wanting to avoid ripping out all her othewise beautiful knitting, she turned to our old friend Google and she found this post from Yarn Harlot. Basically there is a way of just ripping out the cabling without the surrounding knitting and using a DPN to reknit the pulled stitches correctly back up to the row you were working on!
Absolute genius.
One of my aims this year is to learn a lot more about sock knitting. So this toe-up free pattern post really caught my attention. I'm really interested in the different techniques of sock knitting as I know there are so many different ways of knitting them.
Here's a link to the pattern - I'm adding it to my 2017 to knit list to.... That list is getting seriously long now...
Looking to treat yourself to some new patterns or yarn? Yarnbob has found some beautiful yarny beauties that also give to charity with every purchase.
I do have a pattern in mind for this yarn...
Love is Love
This beautiful finished knit is a freebie pattern that you can find here. Night owl initially knitted this is 2014 and then it died in the wash... So, feeling inspired she's reknitted it in a slightly looser fit in Wool of the Andes Superwash Bulky. It's now fully washable and looks absolutely stunning!
Definitely a pattern for my To-Make List.... I have a feeling this list will be still in progress into next year!
So that's my list of posts that's really inspired me for this week. I'll see you all same time same place next week!
Love to you all and happy knitting

Yarny Heaven at the Knitting and Stitching Show

So on Sunday my very lovely mother and I went up to London (leaving my amazing hubby with Lily for the day). In London was yarn heaven.
17039294_10158272683035247_8362188248884739915_o
The Olympia Stadium in Kensington played host this weekend to the Knitting and Stitching Show. To me, it was like walking into a huge candy store and it was a beautiful experience.
wp-1485882823939.png
Inside the two large exhibition halls it filled were a wide range of exhibitors. There was stands full of beautiful fabric, stunning yarn, beading accessories, embroidery bits and pretty much most everything a knitter could dream of owning. So pretty much everything for every beautiful one of you.
We arrived - due to a weird route up on the trains - about 30 minutes earlier than planned. This was great as it gave us a bit of time to have a nosy around some of the artwork that was in display.
17039373_10158272682890247_2673837734235188483_o
These jumpers were really beautiful knits and I loved the concept of using your knits as artwork. Unfortunately I couldn't find the plaque that told me the knitter - so if anyone knows who to credit please let me know! An extension of this could be to frame the images if the style of jumper isn't to your tastes?
17157401_10158272670620247_821401667946493463_o
Slighting annoyingly I forgot to make a note of the very clever artist of this piece. But I really wanted to share it as it was one of a favourite pieces on display at the show. Its a fully stitched piece and looks absolutely stunning.
Another beautiful bit of knitting was in aid of the Louise Hamilton Trust (charity number 1106129) Hospice Appeal. Their aim is to raise £3 million to build a 10 bed hospice. There was an enchanted wood, a beautiful garden, a fish pond and a carousel. While they did have donation boxes by the displays you can donate a £1 by texting EKXS31 to 70070.
17159161_10158272683755247_6451458603670225623_o
The garden was seriously impressive. If you are after a size reference, the centre flower bed was over meter wide. Overall, I thought the entire scene was the most amazing knit.
17098114_10158272671305247_6791017974721497953_o
In contrast, the fishpond was a much smaller knit - although no less impressive. To create the effect of the fish being underwater they have been covered with a blue glittery netting.
17097424_10158272671140247_8556463536501129256_o
The final piece, the carousel was also rather beautiful.
17097429_10158272671155247_405331199217061137_o
This wasn't the only campaign running at the event. Innocent smoothies were also there to get knitters knitting for their Big Knit for Age UK. Unfortunately we were a bit short on time - so I brought a pattern home with me. It will be another good scrap yarn pattern and I have a local shop where I can drop my hats to.
17016827_10158272669665247_5415310375291537679_o
The next part of are journey through yarny heaven was into the cable knitting masterclass we'd pre-booked (an extra £16 each on top of the £13 entry ticket). This was run by the lovely Monica Russel - who very kindly agreed to take a selfie with me for this blog post.
17039366_10158272669865247_5015747181206185398_o
It was a really fantastic class. I had never even tried cable knitting before and now (even through I need some serious practice) I actually feel confident enough to pick up a cable knitting pattern to have a serious go. She provided 3 patterns for us to work from which covered 3 different styles - which gave us a really broad overview on the topic.
17038823_10158272670200247_3085826557845381510_o
I will admit that the blue one was actually meant to be a fountain pattern... I got distracted by chatting to a lovely lady visiting from Pennsylvania and didn't read the pattern properly.... But it was so lovely to meet fellow knitters! By the end of the class I'd brought Monica's book 20 to Make - Knitted Snoods. The book is full of beautiful designs with a huge range of techniques. She also very kindly signed it for me. (Here the link for Amazon)
knitted snoods book
My first purchase of the day was a pair of serious huge wooden needles (24mm x 700mm type of huge) from Rachel John. I've seen this sort of size needles all over the internet, but never been able to find them. At some point it will be awesome to be able to knit a rug of a blanket using them. They were also selling yarn to go with them on the stand - but there was no way I was getting that much yarn home by train! It will be fun to figure that out later...
17016804_10158272669930247_5681400902996531240_o
Although my feeling is that they might get used a a pair of lightsabers by my husband and child when she gets a bit older.... Hopefully I'll get to use them to actually knit something before then. It's going to be fun trying to figure out how to logistically knit with something that big!
17192519_10158272670045247_4494445202446563879_o
My next buy was some actual yarn this time. The Trim Wool Shop caught my attention with some gorgeous multi-coloured wool and an amazing design for a spiral hat that they had designed. I came away from the stand £8 poorer, but happily gripping my new yarn purchase (Katia's Azteca colour 7842).
17039081_10158272669140247_6441621814284346031_o
17038490_10158273109655247_3986972741444197403_o 2
My other yarny purchase was from Masami Yokoyama of the Euro Japan Trading Co. It features a ball of UK Alpaca Worsted Spun Hand Knit Yarn in Lavender and a Japanese pattern for a baby cape. It's a beautiful pattern and it's a different style of knitting that I have not tried before. So I'm really looking forward to giving this a go.
17038490_10158273109655247_3986972741444197403_o
As my regular readers are aware, I do have a number of already yarn equipped projects planned for the year. So I decided to be a little bit sensible and buy some patterns on their own - with the idea of buying more yarn when I've made some headway with my other planned projects. I came back with some beautiful projects.
From Mrs Moon I came away with a beautiful project book which has some beautiful knits for babies. She also has some stunning crochet designs as well.
17097148_10158272668140247_6817672454773577941_o
However, some of my favourite patterns where some really classical designs from Purl Alpaca Designs. I came away with patterns for the little grey dress for Lily and the brown dress for me. The plan is to make them in the same colour so we eventually match... It will look adorable.
17016774_10158272667985247_8951874393271384235_o
Now, although I was actually pretty restrained and did not buy much yarn... I did do some research into the yarns available. Now I am starting to progress in my knitting, I want to be able to knit beautiful final pieces with some lovely wool. However, with that comes a price tag and I want to be able to justify that.
One company I was really looking forward to seeing was Wool and the Gang. I've seen a lot of their yarns on Instagram and was pretty tempted. Slightly disappointingly, I really wasn't that impressed with the feel of their chunky yarn. It just didn't sit right with me - although the colours are beautiful. However, what really did impress me was their yarn made with recycled denim - somewhere between cotton and DK weight. The amount of denim varies depending on the mix with cotton. But it is so soft and I would love to knit something in this.
17191927_10158272668375247_5874284243096060155_o
I also got to have a feel of the yarn from Stitch and Story - it's so soft and seriously beautiful in terms of the range of colours. Their example knits were also beautiful.
17192242_10158272667825247_3741705523813736689_o
If you're after some shiny/sparkly but beautiful yarn I recommend Debonnaire Yarns. The yarn knits up amazingly. However, it's not cheap and that's the reason why I have not come home with about 6 millions balls of it. To expensive for an impulse buy, but well worth it if you want to knit a beautiful shawl or cardigan. In all seriousness, I did fall in love with this yarn.
17039034_10158272667215247_7752281394921392117_o (1)
The other yarn that now hold a special place in my 'must have' list is from Yarn Telier. All the Cashmere yarns are so beautifully soft and are available online . At about £25 a ball I really need to have my heart set on a project. But when I do, it will be completely amazingly perfect.
17016983_10158272667185247_7170422094435695823_o
So overall I did not actually come home with that much yarn - surprisingly. But I came home feeling so inspired and more informed about what I could do with this amazing hobby that is knitting. My project list has definitely grown and I will update the To make list when I have some time.
17038490_10158273109655247_3986972741444197403_o
Thanks for reading and I seriously recommend the Knitting and Stitching Show for those of you who love knitting.
Love to you all, Mummy Brain Signing off,

WIP Progress Report

Hay to all my lovely followers!
So this week has actually been super productive on the knitting front. I’ve had lots of lovely friends and family come to visit me this week and so I’ve managed to get a lot of knitting done!
This week we are totaling 6 squares (so catching up on my 2 square shortfall from last week) and 2 colour rows of the blanket.

The reason for my massive square catch up is I had a batch of 5 moss stitch squares to complete. Over the course of the week I have become – if I do say so myself – a pretty speedy moss stitch knitter. The first square took me about 6 hours to knit, while the 5th one took about half the time. I still think the stitch is seriously boring to do for any length of time, but the final affect is nice.
So I only have 21 squares to knit (according to my spreadsheet which was definitely a Godsend to the speedy completion of this project). Which means we are definitely on the final countdown to this first stage of my knitting journey. After we’ve sewn that together I can find something else to knit… (AKA start my aim of finishing 12 socks this year)
I’m hoping to get some serious blanket rows knitting done this afternoon and during this week. It’s really starting to gain some length now! It’s becoming a seriously awesome blanket and I am looking forward to seeing the final finished piece. Of course, I am especially looking forward to seeing Lily actually using the final finished piece!

Lily, on the other hand, is growing every day – can you believe she’s 6 weeks today? She’s now weighing in at a healthy 12ib (about 5.4kg). The health visitor came on Friday and was really pleased with her development. Lily can now hold her head up and almost has enough strength to sit up – we also have an ’emerging smile’ (so not just wind and this was witnessed by the Health Visitor). She’s also starting to pay attention to rattles and turning her head to see the direction of the sound. So it shouldn’t be long until she starts properly reacting to her toys (she has a lot).
Yarn Addict Signing off – I have a lot to get done this afternoon!

Week 39: WIPs, Bubs and Post Holiday Update

Hello all!
I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year. As I’m sure many of you have done, I had planned to use this week to get on with some serious knitting! That lull between Christmas and New Year always seems to offer me a curious lull where knitting can happen at some serious pace during the Christmas TV screenings/catching up on series while both my husband and I have time off work.
Obviously, this year, my time off will last a while longer while we wait for bubs to make an appearence! I’ll be off work now until the beginning of April. I can’t guarantee much blogging will get done in that time, but I will try to keep you lovely lot somewhat updated – just with less regular or predictable postings!
So that plan did sound beautiful. Bubs however has other ideas….. From boxing day I’ve been having very irregular contractions. Resulting in me being very uncomfortable and very tired for now nearlly a week.
We’ve been down the hospital twice this week because bubs decided to not move much for a few hours. The very lovely midwifes in my local NHS hospital have been very patient and bubs has thankfully been ok once the machine was hooked up. So this week we have another monitoring appointment booked for tomorrow (incase bubs plays silly buggers again tomorrow) and a scan on Tuesday to check everything is actually fine! So a busy couple of days ahead…
 Finished Squares
Moss Stitch Zig Zag square = 1 white. This isn’t a quick knit and I seriously don’t think I could cope with this on a larger project scale. But I love the effect it creates!
Current W.I.P:
Diagonal stripe square = 1 grey and 1 white
Still Left on the Complex List:
Zigzag stripe square = 2 grey and 1 white
Ridged striped with bobbles square = 1 teal
Diamond Seed Stitch Square = 1 grey and 1 navy
Moss Stitch Diagonal stripes = 1 grey and 1 white
Baby Blanket!
I’m seriously still in love with this project. It’s a beautiful effect that it’s creating and I love watching it come together. Now I’m just looking forward to seeing it finished and bubs using it ðŸ™‚
Baby brain signing off🙂
