F.O. – Scrap yarn cot blanket

My knitting speed has definately increased. This is good news in light of my limited knitting time these days.
So this was knitted with my favourite curcular needles – addi premium. Such a pleasure to knit with!
Luckily I finished knitting on a day with some glourious evening sunshine!
I’m so pleased with how this turned out. Really love the image and the mix of colours within it. I have used up some yarn balls… but not was many as I thought I would. So need to look and some other smaller projects for that…
What I really learnt with this project was colour changing. It wasn’t something I’d really done before. Initially I was just cutting off the ends with the intention of sewing in later.
Then as I went on I figured out that winding the yarn was much tidier and saved a lot of time. Will definately use this method on furture projects!
The final side of this was 1m x 1m plus a 5cm border on both ends.
On a side note the border matches my nail polish…
I had originally hoped that a 4×4 ribbed border would have prevented the end curling. I think sticking with the same needles with the slightly thinner dk mucked up tension and so it curled anyway.
But it still looks shiny ðŸ™‚
This blanket will be a christmas present for Lily. She’ll have grown into it by then!
Now time for a crochet project ðŸ™‚ Already planned with yarn in the bag and pattern downloaded. So watch this space!
Love to you all and happy yarning!

W.I.P update - Harry Potter Scrap Yarn Blanket

Hi all!
For reasons I’m not going to share, I’ve ended up having a lot of knitting time this week – Lilys fine just incase you were starting to worry!
But what that does mean is that I’ve finished the picture on Lily’s blanket! I’ve still got at least another 20cm of knitting and the border to go. But this last bit should be pretty quick.
I’m really pleased with how its turned out. Slightly edited the design to make the top of the head rounder. That’s the additional stitches in dark blue in the pic below at the one end for the top few rows.
So off to continue knitting. Will get the colour finished and border done for the top end. Then will pick up stitches to extend colour and do border for the bottom. So nearlly there!!!
Hopefully the next one for this blanket will be a finished object post…
Love to you all and happy knitting!

W.I.P Progress Report - Scrap Yarn Harry Potter Blanket

Made some good progress on the blanket over the last few days. Stocking stitch is making this a pretty quick knit.
The blanket is twice as wide as this – mainly wanted to show you the picture progress.
You’ll also see that it’s rolling up at the bottow. Thinking of countering by picking up a cable stitch or ribbed stitch border. It’ll also help extend the length a bit.
For the first few lines I was cutting and rejoining. But finding the tension remains more consistent when I’ve been weaving the colour in with the black. Also has the benefit of being less ends to weave in ðŸ™‚ (complete win!!)
That’s all from me for now… off to stare at my yarn collection…
Love to you all and happy knitting!

Harry Potter Craft Ideas

If you love Harry Potter and you love craft then bookmark this page.

I will be updating as I find more amazing ideas.

Blogs that you need to check out

I found this really amazing blog this week.

You can find it here.

It's full of fantastic free designs which cover most genres.

Another pattern blog & website that is worth a look:

You can find her funky designs to buy here.

Blanket ideas

Harry Potter - Dark Mark Afgan wool scraps through

This blanket concept is a great way of using up all your scraps of wool. This has been designed to use any scraps - except for black that you use for the dark mark pattern. There is a block pattern on the blog. So go and get yourself a copy. Completely free as long as you credit the blog if you are selling the finished piece.

Harry Potter Book Set Blanket

This is a really funky and such an effective idea. Personally, I would alter the colours to match the child covers of the books. What would you do?

Clothing - Socks

Griffindor Pride Socks

This is a really impressive Harry Potter inspired pattern. Ideal if you are planning a Harry Potter inspired costume. Personally, I would make a set for use in the evening.

If you're not of the Griffindor house - she also does a set for Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Slytherin.

Craft Ideas that I would love to try

*Bookmark this blog - I will be adding to it as I find new amazing projects throughout the internet*

Crochet Ideas

DIY Crochet Flowers

This design is one of the reasons I would love to be able to Crochet. Such a beautiful pattern idea.

Can somebody please make one for me?

The pattern is here

Funky Up Your Wine Glasses

Name your wine glasses

Hate getting your wine glasses mixed up? Why not turn the base of each glass into a chalk board. Name each glass at your gathering and you shouldn't get so confused!

All you need to do is get some of that paintable chalkboard stuff and dip your wine glass into it. I have some of this at home - so I will update when I have had a go at it.

This idea was found on: listinspired.com

Sewing Projects

Butterfly Pot Holders

I love butterflies - we used them as a theme at our wedding. I'm also going through cheap oven gloves at a stupidly fast rate. So this project caught my attention.

The finished project looks beautiful!

This project was found on: diy.tag

Upcycle old denim into Storage Pouch

I have loads of old jeans at home that I plan on keeping for denim related projects....

This is a fab idea for a pouch. I have one of those wooden beds with a headboard. Because we have it pushed right up against the bed, I don't have enough space to be able to have a shelf or table beside the bed.

This idea is meant to be for a pouch to hang on your door. But it would be super useful for me to hang on the posts on my bed.

A denim Recycled Apron

This has two major positives - really easy craft project and refuses a set of jeans. What would you accessorise yours with?

Get the instructions here.

Quilt & Blanket Ideas

Harry Potter Book Blanket

This super awesome design is by Happy Hooker and can be found on her blog here. It is a pretty funky idea and would be easy enough to knit. I'd probably do this without the numbers at the top...

Projects to use up old buttons

Button Bowl

If you are looking for a storage bowl or something a little different - take a look at this. Personally, I have hundreds of buttons at home I could use up. Alternatively, they are also really cheap to buy if you want a specific colour scheme.

I found the idea and you can find the instructions here.

Display Idea

Display memory box

I love keeping hold of tickets and passes from trips. It allows me to relive the moments when I rediscover the memory box.

This is a super cute idea that allows you to display and keep updating your frame.

The best Harry Potter Content on the Internet

*BOOKMARK THIS PAGE - I will be adding to it as I find new content!*

I am a huge Harry Potter Fan. The perk is that the initial upset on finishing the books is quickly over with the stream of amazing content on the internet.

= This video parody of Uptown funk has been floating around the internet - with very good reason. I love the original of the song - but this video and song parody is amazing.

= Here is a list of alternate castings for the Harry Potter Movies. Some of them work better than others....

Take a look here

A potential Alternative for Barty Couch Junior. Thoughts?

= The other really popular Harry Potter video this week has been this interpretation of the friends theme. Total genius.

= If I was getting married again I would draw inspiration from this amazing Harry Potter inspired wedding article. But (hopefully) I won't be.... so might have to steal some ideas for my next birthday party?

= One very clever person has put a video together that puts all the story plot of Severus Snape into chronological order. If you didn't understand the value of Severus within the plot, this is the video that will explain all. It literally had me almost sobbing at my desk at work this morning.

= If you are looking for further Harry Potter music videos - I discovered "Not Literally Productions" on Youtube completely by accident. They have got some absolutely amazing parody songs. This one about Gryffindor pride is one of favourites.

= Then this series of cross over truths appeared on my Facebook feed the other day. Mind = Blown.

= If you are after some inspiration for a fan fiction plots this article on a range of fan theories could be worth a look.

10 Strange Fan Theories That Will Change How You View Harry Potter

= Confessions from JK. Rowling

15 times JK Rowling shocked Harry Potter fans

= You will love this article on Hypon.com. It is 17 facts that Rowling has told us about the gang after the books finished. It's a great resource if you're writing an in-canon post book fic.

= I need this quilt in my life. Where do I get one???

= This similarly beautiful selection of signs from a Facebook store. I would love something similar to this in my bedroom! The boxes would also be an amazing box to store my crafts in.

= An art student designed these amazing illustrated Harry Potted books. Take all my money and make me one please! Find more images here.

Hope you enjoyed my blog! Don't forget to follow me on twitter to stay updated.

New years resolutions. Feb 2015: Craft update

Feeling rather proud of myself. I have actually managed to continue this resolution into February!

During my day job I spend the majority of my day glued to a computed screen. So I find crafting a great way of unwinding. In addition, because I usually end up learning something new, I sustain the internal drive to do something productive during my spare time.

If I do say so myself, this month craft wise has been rather productive. :)

Project 1: Scarf

I can happily report that the scarf has actually progressed!

Week 1 - I admit, I was still struggling with the knitted patch squares so the scarf got forgotten about again (Sorry to my husband!).

Week 2 - I can now happily report that 10 additional lines of knitting have progressed onto this scarf! In addition, I have also finished the 4th ball of wall and am now knitting with what will be the final ball of wall of the project! (I think I deserve a glass of wine). I think I might treat myself to a bottle of bubbly when this damn (beautiful) scarf in finished!

Project 2: Sewn patchwork quilt

Week 1:
Based on my own suggestions from last month  I have actually drawn myself a line sketch pattern from the original Pinterest image.

Unfortunately, the quilt didn't progress any further.

Project 3: learning to knit

For those of you who don't know, I have subscribed to the magazine 'Art of Knitting'. Each magazine comes with a ball of wool and a pattern for a square.

Onto the second square of the throw. This is my first attempt of ever doing the stocking stitch. To do this you have to alternate 1 row of pearl stitch and 1 of garter stitch. What happens if you do 2 of one by accident is the line effect seen in my first attempt.

As you can see I also did not bother to count the stitches as I went through. I learnt my lesson though and this led me to a more successful square. Where you have to be careful is when you swap between knit and pearl stitches in the same row. I had not actually realised I had to move the wool from one side to the other when I swapped between stitches. Life was easier once I worked this out.

I also progressed onto the really funky third square - the chequerboard stitch. Having now worked out how to swap between the knit and purl stitch this was easier than it could have been. The overall effect also looks pretty cool.

In addition to the squares, I also thought I'd have a go at some of the project patterns. I was rather pleased with my egg cosie. However, I can't get my head round why anyone would want to make an egg cosy? I have never had problems with cold eggs. Would make a really cute easter gift though.

On another note, my neck has been rather warm this month! With a set of 10mm needles and some chunk wool I have managed to make a rather cool Chunky Cowl for myself. Another project from the #artofknitting . Although I did find that the free needles were a bit short at 23cm, so I have brought myself a longer set. I'm thinking Christmas presents...

Project 4: Cross stitch Harry Potter Monopoly

Again, my resolve has weakened and I have started yet another craft project. Oppss....
One of my friends found this fantastic pattern from this very talented ETSY trader. I would put a link, but it's not available on Etsy anymore.

The Monopoly Pattern - What the whole pattern should look like
The Huge 50" x 50" Aida piece

And so it begins....
