F.O. - Boring White Ceramic Mugs Transformed - Tutorial

Some of you may have seen a reblog I posted a few months back about spray paint customisation of boring white ceramic mugs. Having some of my own, I thought I would save the idea until I was ready to start a quick project.
This is the inspiring original image (source http://garlandofgraceblog.com/).

Personally, I'm not really a fan of gold spray paint. So  I opted for a really  funky electric blue.
So the first thing I did was select my mugs and taped them up in my chosen pattern with my blue plasterers tape.

As you can probably tell, the vertical pattern is a heck of a lot easier to tape. I also found there was less leak points here.
I then coated each mug in spray point

I left this one outside for about an hour. By the time I brought it inside it was dry. Alternatively, spray them before you go to bed and they will be dry by the morning.
Once it is completely dry you can then remove the tape...

The horizontal line really had some seriously leakage. But it's created a sort of wave effect which I actually think is pretty cool.
The stripe effect is a lot easier to recreate. The trick here - if you do have any leakage - is to scape it off now with your nail etc.
To stop any of the bits of paint you like coming off, what you need to do now is seal it. Just apply this with a small paintbrush. It dries completely clear, But will stop the paint coming away from the mug.
Adding the sealent will prevent you pattern coming off. I painted on 2 layers just to be sure

Once your sealant has dried your mugs have officially finished. Give them a quick wash and then treat yourself to a well earned hot drink of your choice :)

If you give this  go I would love to see the pattens you come up with :) What do you think?
