The Top 10 Tech that I plan to buy 2015

I love technology. It is so exciting how quickly different tech lets the world get excited about it before fading away; Google Glass being a prime example. Tech and electronics has to be decorative or practical/solve a problem (ideally both).

I've put together my list of the top 10 things I can find on the internet. All of these are now on my shopping list. There are some fantastic ideas!  What of these are on your shopping list?

1.

KYMERA MAGIC WAND REMOTE CONTROL

£49.99

Ever since seeing this on Dragon's Den I have had this on my wish list. My TV remote seems so boring in comparison....

2.

TETRIS MOOD LIGHT

£29.99

I love Tetris. Having spent most of my teenage years obsessed with this game I got very excited when I first saw this. Currently, I am redecorating my room and might have to get this to help add some colour to a currently very plain corner.

3.

M:TECH DANCING WATER SPEAKERS

£19.99

I've seen these in action before. These look fantastic and once I've sorted out my computer and have a set space for speaker I will get these. They just look so much better than my current plain black ones.

4.
£30.00

This gadget is literally the answer to all my problems. We have the Xbox setup downstairs. However, this would allow us to watch Netflix in the bedroom on the TV without having to leave a laptop on for hours.

5.

INDUCTION SPEAKER

£9.99

Even though I have a Samsung Galaxy 5, the speakers just do not quiet cut it. This one requires no cables and if the sounds is good this would be fantastic. Having to cables is a major plus. I am always losing them!

Induction Speaker

6.
£11.95.

The space I have been able to salvage for a seating area in the bedroom isn't huge. This would allow me to have enough light to work by without having to get a separate table/floor light!

Bright Idea

7.

Polaroid Socialmatic 14MP

£249.99

I am so bored of taking pictures and not doing anything with them. This would be an amazing solution! The price point is currently a bit high for me. But I will start keeping an eye out this year to see if any cheaper second hand ones appear.

8.
Steam Console.
Hopefully due out this year. The release date keeps getting put back so I don't have much hope...

Steam and Valve do some awesome game. We have a few on the computer (Civilisation being one awesome one!). I personally like the idea of trying to move those games so I can play them on the TV to free up the computer. Apart from puzzle games, I would rather game on the computer.

9 Gadgets (and Other Tech) to Be Excited About in 2015

9.
Polaroid Zip Printer
£80 approx and approx £15 for 100 sheets of the paper refil.

This has been demoed at the Las Vegas tech show this year. It's such a clever idea as it allows you to link your phone via bluetooth to the printer. Like the old polaroid camera, this allows you to easily and quickly print pictures 2" x 3" on the go. Apparently the app also allows you to edit the pictures before you print them - so you can create your own photo booth on the go! It does not require ink and the special paper refills means the images are completely ink-less.

This gadget will allow me to actually print all the lowish resolution images on my phone to a size no-one will notice. It's a great way of getting some pictures of nights out for my many unfilled picture frames.

10.
£200

This concept started off as a kickstarter project.

It's a self cleaning and self maintaining fish tank. All you need to do is add plants and fish! You don't need to worry about changing the waters or the filters. It's not available on to buy yet. They are currently producing the pre-ordered tanks from the pre-order. When it is available this tank removes all the stuff I dislike about fish keeping.

How to get inspired for 2015

As many of you may be aware I am a social media marketer by trade. I find Pinterest a great way of bookmarking all of my social media related pins.

If you're interested check out the entire board here:

For the last few weeks this pin with has been repinned about 5 times a day. It's one of my most popular pins on the board. With this is mind, I thought I would put together some of the best advice I've found from around the internet for staying inspired!

For starters you need to start spending some time each day to stop and reflect and what you want to achieve. When you get up in the morning spend 20 minutes doing some exercise (5,7) with all your social media turned off (6). This will get the blood flowing in your brain and your heart pumping.

This doesn't have to involve leaving the warmth of your house if it's cold and wet outside. I have a number of dance games on my Xbox/Kinect in my living room which I'm going to start using. Doing this inside your house means you can also combine it with your morning beverage of choice (6). Caffeine can be a great source of inspiration.

Coffee is a drink of the Gods

While you're relaxing post exercise use this time to start working out and planning your long term goals (2). What do you actually want to succeed in? You are way more likely to succeed if you feel strongly excited or happy about it (2). This will help you draw motivational energy that will keep you focused and on track. Do not pick more than 1 or 2 main goals as this will stretch you to thinly (3).

Now you know where you want to be, you have to work out how you're going to get there. What things (think small steps) do you need to succeed in to get to where you need to be (9)? Planning a journey with goals will allow you to feel more confident that you are making progress.

Once you've decided on your goals you need to find ways of keeping yourself motivated. Getting additional input from other sources can help re-boost your inspirational reserves. Try reading some new authors, try out some new music and read blogs about your goals (2, 3). It's also worth spending some time trying to find speakers online that inspire you (4,5). This can be a really good way of putting yourself back on track if you're wavering.

I'm not claiming that doing any of this will make your life easier. However, I hope that by finding your goal and setting yourself on the path will make you life more enriched.

Did this help? It would be great to here your goals below!

Do you have any tips to feeling inspired? Post below!

Lessons to be Learnt - Always Fact Check #FoxNewsFacts

Have you been on twitter over the last few days? If you have you may have noticed the trending hashtag of #foxnewsfacts . Confused? Let me explain...

Sunday Night:

In the wake of the tragedies in France, Fox News gets in a "specialist" on terrorist intelligence. Steven Emerson (as you can see here from his Wiki page) is an advisor to the government. However, he is somehow convinced that Birmingham is a non-muslim no go zone and London has violent "Muslim" police that beat non-Muslim.

Apparently he might be more use in an anti tourism marketing campaign then advising on terrorism.

See the full interview below -->

Monday:
As always when someone does something stupid, Twitter responds. In this case the hashtag #FoxNewsFacts was born - to brilliant results. Other great articles to check out:

I definately agree with this bloke: Could we nominate Fox News for Comedic program of the year? Don't forget to follow me on Twitter:

My Current Top 10 Feel Good Songs - Youtube videos

For something a bit different I thought I would share my current Top 10 favourite upbeat songs. These are all songs that just make me feel happy and optimistic upon listening to. So I just thought that I would share some to help brighten up your week.

If you disagree or can suggest new songs to me then please comment below!

Robbie Williams - Putting On the Ritz (2013)
Robbie's new album 'Swing both ways' is a great modern take on old jazz. This song is definitely one of my favourites on the album. The video below is from his performance on strictly - which makes it a bit extra special.

Pharrell Williams - Happy (2014) This song has been played over and over again. I completely accept that. However, for me it just doesn't get old. I still feel incredibly happy and optimistic every time I hear it. So here it is again :)
Oren Lavie - Her Morning Elegance (2007) I found this song a couple of years ago completely by accident on Youtube. I love it so much. This video is worth a watch as it's a really clever concept.
Mika - Popular Song (2012) A friend brought the album and I already had his other album so I thought I'd take a listen. This particular song really struck a cord with me and I still love it.
Deep Blue Something - Breakfast at Tiffany's (1993) Although I have never actually seen the film, I love the song. Whenever it comes one I can't help but sing along a smile.
Electric Light Orchestra - Mr Blue Sky (2000) I originally heard this on an episode of Doctor Who. I am an avid fan of the new episodes but have yet to catch up with the classic episodes on Netflix (I apologise to all true Whoovians). Once discovering the name of the song and the artist I then found out my parents had ELO's 'All over the world' album. They did win kudos points. The album is amazing and really worth listening to.
Appleton - Everything Eventually (2003) This song appeared on one of my Now CD's in my mid teens. I've loved the lyrics ever since and it just makes me smile.
Mark Ronson - Uptown Funk Feat Bruno Mars (2014)
Now I've finished studying and work for a living I spend so much more of my time listening to the radio. This song really caught my attention and so I thought I'd share encase you missed it!
K.T. Tunstall - Black horse and a cherry tree (2004) I love this woman's music. It's really upbeat and the music is also really relaxing.
Not Literally Productions - I Ship it (2013) I started out with writing Harry Potter fanfiction as a teenager. It's a great way of improving your writing as you get great feedback from readers.  As a result, when I found this I just couldn't resist.  These guys make for fantastic parody videos.
Hope you enjoyed this playlist and that it got you smiling!  Have you discovered any new favourites?  Comment and Share below!

Travel Review: London 2015 - The exploration continues.

My husband and I like to alternate our holidays so that we spend one year with a holiday abroad and the alternative year having smaller city breaks. Last year we spent a week in Portugal (love the top rated last minute deals!) and so this weekend we decided to head up to London for a long weekend.

We pre-booked the coach and the hotel over the internet. Booking the coach early usually means you can find cheaper fares. On national express I managed to get us both return tickets for a total of about £43.00. The hotel was a bit of a gamble as we used hotwire.com to book it. Figuring that we wanted a base in the centre of London I used the station postcode as a search point and selected the star rating. Our eventual selection ended up being the Double Tree by Hilton next to Victoria Station (£170 for both nights for the room).

SATURDAY

Wanting a long weekend, we booked the coach from 8am Saturday morning and the return for 7:30pm on Monday night.  I also double checked with the hotel that we could leave our bags with their reception when we were not in the room.

We were welcomed with a warm cookie upon check in  - seriously yummy. The bags were taken (by us) upstairs to the 8th floor. Thankfully the lifts were working. Room was so comfy and we had a fantastic view over Victoria station. I was very pleased to find tea and coffee facilities (including 1 sachet of hot chocolate) and a few bottles of water. The bathroom was also beautiful. I could have stayed there for longer than 2 nights.

We were less than pleased to find that apparently on Saturday they had a shortage of toilet paper. We were given about 7 bits of toilet paper and I eventually had to phone for a resupply.

Once we had left the bags in the bedroom we then headed out into the city. My husband chose Camden Market as our first port of call for the weekend. He also joined the hoards of Londoners in owning an Oyster card - I already have one from a previous visit.

There was an attempt by the weather to ruin the day. It failed as the range of stalls and people still helped to make it a really exciting experience exploring the alleys between the stalls. Highly worth bringing cash with you as not all of the stalls accept card payment and some can be a little pricey. It will also give you a lot more bargaining power. If you are a comic book fan I should also draw your attention to a comic book store (Mega City Comics) across the road. Fantastic selection of graphic novels, artwork and comic books. They also do mail order. Hoping to get some of the comics to frame and put on the wall as part of our bedroom redesign.

Next we did one of my picks for the weekend - visiting platform 9 3/4. Have been meaning to do this for ages and kept putting it off because of the queue. Apparently Saturday afternoon is a good time to go. We only queued for 40ish mins (instead of the 3 hour long queue that occurred earlier in the day). I selected a Griffindor scarf and got photographed - I admit that I gave in and spent the £8 for a pic (although there is a slight discount if you buy 2). The gift shop is only worth going to if you fancy the picture. If not then I wouldn't bother unless you have more than £50 to spend. I may need to purchase myself one of the nicer charms (around the £40-60 price tag). They were slightly out of my budget after my coat purchase. The cheaper ones were really poor quality and not worth spending the £6 on. However, they do have an online gift shop so I may have to do some saving....

Me running off to go and live at Hogwarts

For our main meal we headed towards Victoria Station - a known location of food near the hotel. To my husband's delight we found ourselves outside a Yo Sushi bar. He has wanted to head into a bar with one of those tracks that bring food around for ages. We spent a few initial minutes looking lost and confused at the continuous procession of dishes. One of the team then took pity on us and explained the system. Not the cheapest meal but well worth the experience.

Not feeling very hungry that evening, we thought we would check out the hotel bar. The bar food (fries and onion rings) were nothing special. But they did hit the spot perfectly. I warn you now that this isn't the place to go for a professional cocktail or if you want to go somewhere with a large selection. But it is great for a nice relaxing evening.

[My husband stayed in the Marriot in Bournemouth for a night in 2013. The barman was being trained in how to make professional Gin cocktails. He was also a really great bar host and we learnt loads about cocktails. So now I judge most hotel bars by this standard. Just thought I would give you guys some context.]

SUNDAY

Sunday was another relatively early start as we wanted to find some breakfast before the Imperial War Museum opened. It turns out that nobody is in London before 10am and nowhere is open apart from Costa. It's right next to Lambeth North station. So head there if you need coffee at a normal hour on a Sunday morning.

We then headed over to the war museum. The perk of this is it's completely free to enter most of the exhibitions. There are a few you have to pay for but these change so precheck them on the website. You initially enter the building on floor 1. The building is built around one central column. This central column is currently filled with a hanging Spitfire and a Hurricane jet. It is a really impressive sight.

On the ground floor is the WW1 and WW2 exhibitions. There is some really interesting history and exhibits to be seen.

Imperial War Museum, London

If all your kids are over 14 it is worth going to see the Holocaust memorial on the 4th floor. It really helps you understand the horror of what happened and you get to understand a little more about the big players who worked around Hitler. Honestly, I found it all quiet difficult to stomach. It's always hard to understand the horrors of what people do to each other. I honestly can say that I have so much respect for those who survived these atrocities and went on to live normal lives.

This museum does have a cafe, which is an excellent plan. It will take you most of a day to get around it and you will need a coffee. I would't hold out to much hope for the gift shop. There was not a lot there, although the book shop is definitely worth a look.

With the remainder of our day we decided to head down to Paddington station. This was to get a quick picture of the famous bear. What we had not realised is that the people who design and made the first Paddington bear toys were the parents of Jeremy Clarkson. Jeremy owned one of the first Paddington bear toys. For reference it's down on Platform 1 under the clock and it's really easy to get there via the circle line by underground. If you want to buy your own Paddington to take home you can pick up one in the gift shop!

Now we were feeling completely exhausted. We swung past M&S in Victoria station and brought ourselves a sandwich. Thankfully we brought a bottle of Tesco Cava with us (it was left over from NYE). It was a great way to relax after a busy day.

MONDAY

Last morning before we both head back to work. So we concluded that we would spend the day enjoying ourselves and exploring. Thankfully the hotel allowed us to leave our un-required bags with the concierge. They have a locked room and this hotel is so close to the coach station it's ideal to pick up from.

We headed down to Portobello Road market as our first port of call. Honestly, head down on a Saturday if you want the full experience. It's the only day during the week where all of the shops are open. However, it was still really fun exploring it and I managed to find a few new charm bracelet charms.

If you want beautiful but very cheap charms (I brought 2 for £8) then this is your new must see go-to place. The perk of being here on a Monday is I had the luxury of looking through the collections to find the ones I wanted.

For those looking to redecorate, this street is full of fantastic decor shops. There is some amazing antique shops and more modern print shops.

Don't bother with breakfast - this street has a waffle house. Sinful but beautiful! There is also more coffee shops than you can shake a stick at.

From here we jumped on a bus. You can't use change on London buses any more. However, with an Oyster card the cost is about £1.50 anywhere. We headed over to Victoria underground by bus. This is a great route as it also drives past Kensington Palace. From Victoria we jumped on an underground tube to Westminster.

Coming out of the station, the first thing we saw was the London Eye. I've been on it previously, but it is still impressive. My husband hasn't been that close before. However, I am pretty sure he was rather underwhelmed by the experience.

After a wonder around the outside of the Palace of Westminster (the Houses of Parliament - HOP) we headed into St. Margaret's Church. It's a small church by Westminster Cathedral but it is used as the office church to the H.O.P.  It's free to get in (but no photos allowed inside) and really worth a look. While we were in there I also found a leaflet about tours of the H.O.P.

Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, London

So this led me to dragging my husband in the direction of the ticket office. For info this is located to the right to the entrance of Portcullis house. However, we were then informed that audio tours only run on Saturdays. We were then told that there were no tours running because parliament when into session at 2:30pm (it was currently 1:30pm). The golden lining to this was that we were more than welcome to go and sit in the public gallery. This is completely free to anyone who wants to go and watch. We stayed for 3 hours. Unfortunately there is no phone or cameras allowed in the public gallery.

I could not recommend this highly enough. It's amazing how much about politics you can learn from being there. They also have a gift shop (I brought a bookmark, but didn't bother with the HOP branded lolly).

3 hours later we headed out to go and get some dinner. If we hadn't had a coach to catch at 7:30 we would probably have stayed as they were about to have a second reading of the law on Modern day slavery.

Overall a fantastic weekend. London is the gift that just keeps on giving.

Relaunch - Blog's a Go

Hi all and welcome to 2015!

Apologies for going quiet. I seriously haven't posted anything on my old blog for about 8 months. So that went really well. But it's 2015. New year and a new start. We're all allowed to fail occasionally.

So who am I? Most of you will never have read my original blog. There was not a lot of content on there and you are unlikely to stumble across it. I am a married Forensic Science Graduate now working with Social Media. I love writing and am currently trying to steal time to edit my first novel between trying to do about 3 million other things. In addition, I also love reading and have to attempt to finish a huge pile of books filing up my bookshelf. When not doing those things I am either planning craft projects on Pinterest or actually doing them. Or I'm travelling, I love exploring new places.

Platform 9 3/4 London Kings Cross

I usually hate failing at things. But I've learnt over the course of 2014 that failing can be a really great point of your life to take stock of why. Review what you did and why you failed. Was it because you never really wanted to succeed in the first place? Not having enough motivation to carry something though to the end can be a real Achilles heel. My life has been so much more satisfying once I was able to work out what things I enjoyed doing in my spare time. I now do that for work as well. If you are going to spend all day doing something, you have to enjoy it. Life is far to short.

Having completed a degree in Forensic Science, I have certainly taken a different path that I originally planned (?). Improvised is probably a better word. Although it was a fascinating subject to learn, the academic nature of it interested me more than the practical process. I got involved with working in the Science Relations student team for the marketing department. This lead me to being part of a team to present at the British Science Festival in September 2013. While I was there I also managed to get a really cool picture with Professor Brian Cox (probably the only famous person I've ever met). He's an amazing Science Ambassador.

British Science Festival - Our Presentation Classroom

Me meeting Professor Brian Cox
British Science Festival 2013

To cut a long story short, I basically realised I love communication, social media and writing. So I figured I'd combine all three. I've spent last year being productive (again I apologise that that hasn't involved blog writing. Having now completed a professional certificate in Social Media from @theidm , I now have a great knowledge in how to practically run a marketing campaign through the use of social media tools. Which is pretty damn cool. It has also given me a really good grasp on how to use the internet to spread a message.

So what will this blog include:

Short answer is a completely random mix of everything.

- A few Top 10 style lists of totally awesome but random stuff. A lot of this will be based on TV shows, crafts or places that are seriously worth a visit.

- Slightly more normal type blogs where I attempt to put the world to rights. This will include responses to blogs I've read on the internet or news stories. There will also be general musings.

- Links to videos and articles that are worth a look. This will hopefully allow me to summarise the stream of content on the facebook page and make things easier to find.
